Making Toys for the kiddo, or is it really for me?

I recently completed a project for my daughter. Her favorite show is Blaze and the Monster Machines on Nick Jr. It is actually a pretty smart show and has a lot to offer. So I decided to recreate it so she could play with all her Blaze toys on it. Here is how it went:

I start with some white backerboard, a 2×4 frame, and a generic outline of a track.

Then I tape it off to prepare for painting.

Meanwhile I make the accessories from a comination of cardboard, duct tape, a 2 liter bottle, and empty cans of kids crunchies.

A roller coaster loopy-loop with popsicle sticks to come later, as well as a painted stunt ramp. Wherever I had cardboard, I used it to create these.

It is coming together.

Pieces added.

The center piece, The Monster Dome. Checking the size.

Piecing the dome together by taping a diaper box to the frame.

The Munchkin adding her own stamp to the project by doing some artwork to attach to the sides of the dome.

The Monster Dome in its final form.

Axle City in its final state. Race track, Stripes’ Jungle Tree House, Starla’s Bouncing Bull Race Track, Zegg’s Volcano, Darington’s Stunt Ramp, and of course Blaze and the Monster Dome with ramps inside.

The final product is quite large and will not be coming into the house. But she is already having a blast with it. I put quite a few hours into this, and lots of waiting for paint to dry. I fully expect her to destroy this thing eventually, but she loves it and that’s all that matters.

Now on to the next project!
